Area Police
Approximately 50 automobiles have been covered with what appears to be human blood in the German municipality of Hanau close to Frankfurt, police confirm police.
Vehicles, walls and mailboxes were defaced, sometimes with Nazi symbols, they reported in a release.
Officers report they were contacted late on Wednesday night, when a man observed that a car in the Lamboy area of Hanau had been covered with a reddish substance.
The fluid had been placed in the form of a banned symbol, they stated.
Police then found multiple other marked cars and residential walls in the nearby vicinity.
These symbols are illegal in Germany under laws outlawing the public display of Nazi symbols.
Officials state initial examinations indicate the substance was likely human blood.
"There is still no lead as to its source; authorities are currently not cognizant of any harm in connection with the event," they added.
Municipal representatives stated they were trying "to resolve the case" and have appealed to the community for information.
An important political figure stated the incident rendered him stunned and had to be solved promptly.
"This act hits the core of Hanau and reawakens the trauma of the far-right attack five years ago," he stated on online, recalling the killing of nine individuals by a gunman targeting residents of migrant background in February 2020.
